Home Office written question – answered at on 20 February 2018.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many cases of female genital mutilation have been reported under Section 5B of the Genital Mutilation Act 2003 since 2010.
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a crime and it is child abuse. We will not tolerate a practice that can cause extreme and lifelong physical and psychological suffering to women and girls.
Whilst we do not currently collect data centrally on the number of reports made to the police under the FGM Mandatory Reporting Duty, we are considering how this data could be collected in future as part of the police Annual Data Requirement.
