To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if she will make an assessment of the potential effect of the introduction of minimum unit pricing for alcohol on the number of assaults on emergency service workers.

The Government is clear about the value we place on the role of our police officers and emergency service workers in cutting crime and keeping our communities safe. That is why we are supporting the Assaults on Emergency Workers Bill, which will increase penalties available to those who attack emergency service workers. This Bill sends a clear message that we will not tolerate attacks on emergency service workers.

Public Health England's evidence review of the public health burden of alcohol and the cost-effectiveness of alcohol control policies presents strong international evidence to show that price-based interventions can be effective in reducing levels of consumption and the harms associated with alcohol.

Minimum Unit Pricing and its effects will continue to remain under review pending the impact of its implementation in Scotland.
