Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs written question – answered at on 1 December 2017.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, whether the UK will retain access to the Trade Control and Expert System (TRACES) after the UK has withdrawn from the EU, whether his Department has carried out any analysis of the potential effect of losing access to TRACES on future trade in animal and plant materials; and what the planned timetable is for creating an alternative domestic system to manage such trade.
The Government is negotiating our exit from the European Union. Defra is working with the Department for Exiting the European Union to look at our future arrangements and has an extensive programme of work focused on preparing for a range of scenarios to make sure we are ready for the point when the UK leaves the EU. This includes the UK’s systems for the management of trade in animal and plant materials.
