To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment he has made of the potential merits of granting local authorities powers to reduce the frequency of successful appeals against decisions taken by licensing boards to restrict the sale of cheap, super-strength alcohol.

The Government does not collect information relating to the frequency of successful appeals against decisions taken by licensing committees to restrict the sale of cheap, super-strength alcohol.

The Government keeps the Licensing Act 2003 under review and speaks regularly to police and licensing representatives to understand if there are any gaps in the legislation or whether there is a case for new powers.
