To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, pursuant to the Answer of 13 November 2017 to Question 106318 on witnesses: video recordings, what the timetable is for the roll-out of section 28 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 to the remaining 68 Crown Courts.

It is anticipated wider roll out of section 28 for vulnerable witnesses will take place from the Spring of next year, alongside a partial commencement for intimidated witnesses who are complainants in sexual offences and modern slavery offences.

It is essential that we get roll out right for vulnerable witnesses and that we have the confidence we can deliver effective pre recordings to ensure we can provide reassurance that they will not have to face the accused in court. That is why we have delayed roll out from Autumn 2017 to make sure all issues raised in testing the technology have been completely resolved.
