The family reunion policy allows those granted asylum or humanitarian protection to apply for their partner and children under the age of 18 to join them in the UK, provided they formed part of the family unit before the person fled their country. Other family members may also be allowed under the policy if there are exceptional or compassionate factors.

The immigration status of those granted protection and their family members brought to the UK under the policy allows them to study, take employment and apply for tax credits and other benefits.
