To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have any plans to consult on proposals for the introduction of new criminal offences related to causing death by reckless and dangerous cycling; and if so, whether the penalties for those offences would be the same as for the equivalent driving offences.

Protecting pedestrians and all road users is a top priority. We have some of the safest roads in the world but are always looking at ways to make them safer.
There already are road traffic offences that apply to cyclists and they can then be prosecuted if they commit those offences.
The Department is carefully considering the implications of the recent tragic case of Mrs Briggs who died after a collision with a cyclist, including whether current legislation is adequate.
