To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what the effect of the Government's strategy to address climate change will be on the draft National Policy Statement on airports.

The Government agrees with the Airports Commission’s assessment that a new runway at Heathrow could be delivered within the UK’s climate change obligations.

As stated by the Minister of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy earlier in the year, the Government's strategy for addressing climate change, the Clean Growth Plan, will be published following the summer recess and therefore it is not possible to comment on its contents at this time. However, l can assure you that the analysis supporting the Government's preference for expansion at Heathrow considers a range of scenarios for how the carbon impacts of the scheme could be mitigated in order to meet our obligations on climate change.
