To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many people are employed by his Department's Submarine Delivery Authority; and what the value is of that body's total employment expenditure.

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) continues its work to become an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence by no later than April 2018. There are currently around 1,300 people working in the SDA and the employment expenditure is approximately £78 million.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
