Foreign and Commonwealth Office written question – answered at on 13 July 2017.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what recent representations he has made to his counterpart in El Salvador on potential reform of abortion laws in that country.
The British Government regularly raises the issue of women’s rights, including the strict anti-abortion laws with the Government of El Salvador. The then FCO Minister of State (Baroness Anelay) raised these issues when she visited El Salvador in December 2016 and the Minister of State for Europe and the Americas (Sir Alan Duncan) has raised our concerns with the Salvadoran Ambassador in London both in person and in writing.
