To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what his priorities have been during the UK's Presidency of the UN Security Council in March 2017.
Alok Sharma
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs
The theme of the UK Presidency of the UN Security Council has been conflict prevention in Africa, with focus on the Lake Chad Basin, South Sudan, and Somalia. The UK has also held an open debate on modern slavery, to place the issue firmly on the Council’s agenda. Throughout our Presidency, we have been action-oriented, transparent and consultative.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
