Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy written question – answered at on 23 March 2017.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, whether his Department plans to review the restrictions paced on digital locks under the EU Copyright Directive as a result of Britain's decision to leave the EU.
The Government has no plans to review restrictions placed on digital locks, otherwise known as Technical Protection Measures (TPMs). The restrictions placed on the circumvention of TPMs in the EU Information Society Directive derive from the WIPO Copyright Treaty (Article 11) and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (Article 18). As a party to these treaties, the UK’s obligations will remain in place after the UK leaves the EU.
