Foreign and Commonwealth Office written question – answered on 1st March 2017.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what his policy is on the draft statement on non-use force produced by the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions; and what assessment he has made of the prospects for an agreement on that draft among all parties to the discussions.
We welcome Georgia’s commitment to the non-use of force. We continue to believe that a clear commitment to the non-use of force by all parties to the conflicts, including Russia, is essential to enhance regional security and consolidate stability in Georgia. This is particularly important in light of the continued Russian military presence and infrastructure reinforcements in the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which violate Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
