Foreign and Commonwealth Office written question – answered on 1st March 2017.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what recent assessment he has made of the security situation in the South Ossetia and Abkhazia regions of Georgia.
We continue to monitor the security situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, noting with concern recent developments such as increased deployments of Russian military and heavy weaponry, increasingly limited access for international organisations and Non-governmental Organisation further restrictions for civilians seeking to cross the Administrative Boundary Lines for work or education, denial of access to education in children's first language in the Gali region of Abkhazia, and de facto 'borders' reinforced with razor wire. We actively support efforts in multilateral fora to highlight these concerns and encourage all parties to the conflicts to work towards resolution.
