To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what estimate he has made of the value to UK national gross domestic product of the Global F-35 Lightning II programme.

The UK is a major partner in the F-35 Lightning II programme, resulting in significant contracts and supporting UK jobs. UK industry will provide approximately 15% by value of every F-35 Lightning to be built.

Additionally, the UK was recently chosen to be a global hub for maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade services for F-35 avionic and aircraft components. Although, these activities will contribute to UK gross domestic product (GDP), the Ministry of Defence does not routinely calculate the GDP impact of specific defence activities and therefore no assessment has been undertaken for the F-35 programme.
