Foreign and Commonwealth Office written question – answered on 18th September 2015.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what strategy they have to help to end the conflict in Syria in view of the current migrant crisis in Europe.
An inclusive political transition in Syria is the only way to end the conflict and to alleviate Syria’s humanitarian crisis. The UK continues to call on the Syrian regime and its supporters to engage seriously in the political process. Violence in Syria, particularly on the part of the Assad government’s deliberate targeting of civilians, is the root cause of the current refugee crisis. Over four million Syrians have had to flee their homes and a quarter of a million Syrians have been killed. The UK will continue to work with the UN Special Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, and our international partners to press for a political settlement to resolve the conflict in Syria in line with the Geneva Communiqué.
