Department for Communities and Local Government written question – answered at on 22 July 2015.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the impact of the measures announced in the summer budget regarding social housing on the ability of local authorities and housing associations to build new housing on (1) brownfield sites, and (2) elsewhere.
The Government remains committed to delivering 275,000 new affordable homes by 2020. We are engaging with the social housing sector on the changes announced at Budget. This is a financially robust sector and we expect the them to be able to manage these changes through efficiencies. There is a role for them in delivering the mix of housing supply this country needs, as we have already seen through the delivery of over 260,000 new affordable homes over the past five years.
