Department for Business, Innovation and Skills written question – answered at on 21 July 2015.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, what recent assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994 in reducing the number of non-compliant electrical products being sold in the UK.
I have not carried out any specific assessment of the effectiveness of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994, though feedback from Trading Standards and industry has indicated that the Regulations continue to work well in ensuring only safe products are placed on the market.
The relevant European Union legislation has recently been revised to clarify and improve the obligations for those in the supply chain, but with no change to the scope or technical safety objectives. The corresponding revision to the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations will come into force on 20 April 2016 following a public consultation.
