To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions he has had with his Egyptian counterpart on holding elections in that country.
The UK is committed to supporting the Egyptian people’s aspiration for a full and functioning democracy, including an independent judiciary, a vibrant civil society and a free media. We urge Egypt to hold free and fair elections in which all parties can participate, as soon as possible.
I made a statement on 1 March encouraging Egypt to take the necessary steps to hold free and constitutional parliamentary elections as soon as possible and to complete the road map announced in July 2013.
