Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs written question – answered on 3rd July 2015.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government in what proportion of the United Kingdom land area legal air pollution limits are exceeded.
38 UK zones are exceeding EU air pollution limit values. An entire zone is considered to be in exceedance if any point within the zone boundary is in exceedance. While only 17.6% of total modelled road length exceeds EU limit values, the total land area covered by the 38 zones is equivalent to 72.6% of the total UK land area, but the points within the zones which are in exceedance cover a much smaller land area.
