Home Office written question – answered at on 9 June 2015.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what factors she took into account when deciding funding reductions for each police force in England and Wales; and if she will make a statement.
All public services, including the police, need to take their fair share of the savings to reduce the deficit and help the country live within its means. Final police funding settlement allocations for 2015/16 were confirmed on 10 February, following a debate and vote in the House of Commons. After careful consideration, the Government decided that, as in previous years, all police forces in England and Wales would receive the same percentage reduction in core central Government funding. This is a transparent and straight forward approach and was the basis on which many Police and Crime Commissioners and forces had made their financial plans.
The Government has committed to a fundamental review of the police funding formula to ensure that allocations to local forces are fair and appropriate. We will consult the police fully in due course.
