Department of Health written question – answered on 12th June 2015.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what steps he is taking to support research into the treatment of Batten Disease.
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network is hosting a commercial study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of cerliponase alfa in patients with late-infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 2, a form of Batten disease. The NIHR also welcomes funding applications for research into any aspect of human health, including treatment of Batten disease. These applications are subject to peer review and judged in open competition, with awards being made on the basis of the importance of the topic to patients and health and care services, value for money and scientific quality.
