The Health and Social Care Act 2012 legislated for parity of esteem between mental and physical health. We have invested £400 million to make a choice of psychological therapies available in all parts of England for those who need them. We have also invested over £120 million to introduce, for the first time, waiting times standards for mental health services – a very significant milestone on the road to parity.
