Department for Energy and Climate Change written question – answered on 11th March 2015.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what proportion of the United Kingdom's natural gas supplies have originated from Russia in the last three years for which figures are available.
The physical origins of the gas that the United Kingdom receives through the two interconnector pipelines to the Continent are not known as gas can be traded between production at source and final consumption. Due to the interconnectedness of the European gas system, it is possible that some gas produced in Russia ultimately arrives in the United Kingdom. We estimate that these are small volumes, around 1 percent of total supply.
