Department for Communities and Local Government written question – answered on 5th February 2015.
To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, under what circumstances the interim mayor of Greater Manchester city-region will be appointed for a further term.
Until Parliament legislates for an elected Mayor it is at the discretion of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to appoint an interim mayor - any such appointment would be for a fixed term to be determined by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, up to a maximum of 2 years. It is our intention that there would be primary legislation early in the next Parliament to facilitate direct elections in 2017.
