HM Treasury written question – answered on 30th January 2015.
To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what estimate he has made of the benefits to the public purse of the cancellation of the replacement for the Trident successor programme.
This Government is committed to maintain a credible and effective continuous at-sea deterrent. The Government will take a final decision to replace the existing Vanguard class submarines subject to the Main Gate decision point, expected in 2016. As with all Government investment decisions, HM Treasury will scrutinise the Value for Money case carefully. The Trident Alternatives Review, published in July 2013, sets out the expected costs of a like-for-like replacement as well as those for alternative delivery systems and postures.
