To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how much was spent on supply teachers in England in the academic years (a) 2009-10, (b) 2010-11, (c) 2011-12 and (d) 2012-13.
The available data for local authority maintained schools is shown in Table 1. Data for the 2013-14 financial year will be published on 11 December and will be available at: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-local-authority-school-finance-data.

The available data for academies is shown in Table 2. The department does not hold data on academies’ income and expenditure before the 2010/11 academic year. Data for the 2013/14 academic year for academies will be available in the summer of 2015.

The information is provided in separate tables for academies and local authority maintained schools since there are some important differences between the two data collections. In particular, data for local authority maintained school funding covers financial years, whereas academy school funding data covers academic years.
