To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many F-35 Lightning II aircraft are intended to operate on each of the Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers.

The Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers will have the capacity to operate up to 36 Lightning II aircraft and four helicopters fitted with AEW radar. The QEC aircraft carriers are extremely versatile platforms and the precise mix of aircraft deployed will depend on the type of mission being undertaken. Operations in the littoral, for example, may require embarkation of more helicopters and fewer fast jets.
