In June 2012 the Police ICT Company was established as a company limited by guarantee. It is currently jointly owned by the Home Office and the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC), until Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) take full ownership.
As the Home Secretary said in her speech on 20 October, it is for PCCs to take immediate decisions on the specific functions of the company, and the development of a collective approach to managing and procuring police ICT. Local policing decisions, including on IT, are best made locally, by those accountable to the communities that the police serve.
