To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Lord Astor of Hever on 30 July 2013 (WA 263–4), how many F-35B aircraft the United Kingdom has purchased, and whether any more will be purchased before the next Strategic Defence and Security Review in 2015.

The UK has placed orders for four F-35B aircraft and, to date, has taken delivery of three of these. The F-35 programme has been established as an incremental acquisition programme, with production contracts being let initially on an annual basis. As such, there is the potential for contracts to be let for UK aircraft in Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) Lot 8 (2014) and LRIP 9 (2015), before the next Strategic Defence and Security Review in 2015.
