Justice written question – answered on 25th June 2014.
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what recent discussions he has had with (a) the Muslim Institute, (b) the Muslim Council of Great Britain and (c) the Muslim Parliament of Great Britain on the legal status of Islamic marriages in England and Wales.
I have not discussed the legal status of Islamic marriages with any of the organisations listed.
There are no plans to change the law to recognise in English law Muslim marriages and divorces which do not conform to the Marriage Act 1949.
