To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what his Department's priorities are for provisions to be included in the forthcoming Modern Slavery Bill.

The Modern Slavery Bill is an important step in the fight against modern slavery. The provisions in the Bill are designed to protect victims and strengthen the law enforcement response. Increased sentences, restricting the activities of those who pose a risk to others and introducing an Anti-Slavery Commissioner will ensure that law enforcement have the tools they need to prosecute and convict the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime, while at the same time protecting more people from becoming victims of this appalling crime.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
