To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment his Department has made of the effect of Government policy on the level of car insurance premiums.

The Government continue to monitor the publically available sources of data on motor insurance premiums. The Government’s reforms to civil litigation costs and funding will result in unnecessary and excessive costs being removed from the system. However, the level and timing of any reduction in such premiums is a matter for the insurance industry itself.

We are working with insurers to mitigate fraud, excessive whiplash claims and young drivers risk to reduce premiums further.
