To ask the Secretary of State for Health what recent discussions his Department has had on changing the name of the condition post-traumatic stress disorder to post-traumatic stress injury.
No such discussions have been had. National health service clinicians use the tenth edition of the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) for mental and behavioural disorders. Post-traumatic stress disorder is defined in the ICD-10 as a condition which “arises as a delayed or protracted response to a stressful event or situation (of either brief or long duration) of an exceptionally threatening or catastrophic nature, which is likely to cause pervasive distress in almost anyone”.
