Defence written question – answered on 27th March 2014.
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many F-35s the UK is contractually obliged to purchase.
At this stage of the Joint Strike Fighter programme, aircraft are being procured via a rolling programme of annual contracts which confirm customer requirements two years ahead of purchase. At this time the UK has accepted three F-35B aircraft and confirmed its order for a fourth, which is scheduled for delivery in 2015. We will make further announcements on new contractual commitments in due course.
