To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if he will make an assessment of the sustainability of the use of wreck netting by trawlers.

Wreck netting is not conducted by trawlers. The Marine Management Organisation is however aware of localised potential conflict between rod and line fisheries and those fishing by means of wreck netting. Through regular meetings with local fishermen it aims to set catch limits that recognise the needs of both groups.
