To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills if he will take steps to make access to BSI British Standards free to all UK businesses.

The Government have no plans to make access to BSI British Standards free to all UK businesses. There is a cost associated with developing standards for use within the UK and also for enabling UK stakeholders to participate in and shape European and international standards. However, BSI enables smaller businesses to benefit from discounted membership rates, and the cost of membership is offset by the savings made against the full price of standards. Users of large numbers of standards can also choose subscription modules.
