House of Lords written question – answered on 27th March 2014.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the impact of Palestinian capitalism in Ramallah on economic conditions in the wider West Bank and on the peace process.
Economic development in Ramallah is not representative of the overall situation in the West Bank, where only sustained, inclusive private sector growth can ease pressure on public debt and dependence on aid, create jobs and reduce poverty. Growth must be inclusive and reach outside Ramallah, both geographically and demographically.
We have not made an assessment of the impact of Palestinian capitalism in Ramallah on the peace process.
