To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs pursuant to the answer of 17 March 2014, Official Report, column 417W, on unmanned air vehicles, what steps his Department has taken to respond to the UN Special Rapporteur's recommendation on the urgent and imperative need to reach a consensus on reapplicable legal principles between states. [R]
We welcome the report of the UN Special Rapporteur which identifies a number of interesting legal questions. The Government's position is that existing international law sufficiently covers the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. We are carefully considering the recommendations.
