To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent assessment his Department has made of the overall condition of road markings on roads and motorways.

Highway authorities have a duty of care to ensure road markings are maintained so that they can be seen by motorists.

Contractors are required to regularly monitor the condition of markings on trunk roads and motorways.
