To ask Her Majesty’s Government when the Health Research Authority can expect to have approval from the Department of Health for their proposals, submitted in October 2013, to bring together the separate research ethics and NHS trust approvals in a streamlined process to reduce the regulatory burden on research.

The Government remains committed to streamlining research approvals, and the Health Research Authority (HRA) is the organisation created to deliver this. Departmental officials are scrutinising the business case submitted by the HRA as part of standard governance processes and approval of the case is subject to the proposals demonstrating value for money. Consideration of the business case is well advanced and we anticipate that this process will conclude shortly.
