To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will seek representations from the “Shine A Light on Trafficking Humans” group at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College in advance of the introduction of the Modern Slavery Bill; and what plans they have to encourage more schools to educate students about human trafficking.

I applaud the pupils of this school for their campaigning work against human trafficking. Two groups of pupils from the school have written to the Home Secretary on this issue, in December 2013 and January 2014, and the Home Office has noted their helpful views.

Schools can teach about human trafficking as part of their overall curriculum. For example, it could be included in citizenship education or in personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE). The key stage 4 programme of study for citizenship requires schools to teach about human rights and international law, and human trafficking would be a suitable topic.
