To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether mRNA (transcriptome) analysis has been used to assess the possibility that genes other than the target genes for anthocyanin synthesis in genetically modified purple tomatoes would have been turned on by the two transcription factors; and, if so, what were the results.

No application has been made for the authorisation of genetically modified purple tomatoes or for their cultivation. The Government therefore does not hold any information on the composition or properties of these plants.
