The benefits to treatment and care of making anonymised and linked patient records available to researchers, protecting patient confidentiality, are set out in the ‘Plan for Growth’, the ‘Strategy for UK Life Sciences’ and the NHS Chief Executive's report ‘Innovation Health and Wealth’.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
