Business, Innovation and Skills written question – answered at on 27 January 2014.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills what recent discussions he has had with Ministerial colleagues on increasing the number of apprentices in (a) departments and (b) agencies and public bodies.
It is crucial that the civil service and public sector leads the way in offering apprenticeship opportunities. In addition to the wide range of Government Departments offering apprenticeships at immediate and advanced level, the Cabinet Office launched in 2013 a new Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme. The scheme aims to provide 500 places to 18 to 21-year-olds. The first 100 apprentices started their apprenticeships in September 2013.
