Energy and Climate Change written question – answered on 15th January 2014.
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what assessment he has made of the European Commission's ongoing investigation into the proposed nuclear plant at Hinkley Point; and if he will make a statement.
We welcome the European Commission's investigation and the consultation that will follow which will seek views to enable the Commission to make a legally robust decision. Such investigations on the part of the European Commission are a standard part of the process for interventions that are novel and complex. The Commission's decision to investigate represents another important step forward in progression of the state aid case for Hinkley.
