To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many hospital appointments have been cancelled in the last five years.

Between 2008-09 and 2012-13 50,900,745 hospital appointments have been cancelled. Of these 25,434,899 were cancelled by patients and 25,465,846 cancelled by hospitals.

The total number of attendances was 346,363,303, and cancelled appointments represent 14.7% of the total.
