To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions what recent estimate he has made of the number of people claiming universal credit in (a) Essex and (b) Chelmsford constituency in April 2014.

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions set out the plans for the next stage of delivery of universal credit on 5 December 2013.

Actual case load figures at any point going forward will be influenced by the detailed implementation planning currently being undertaken, set against a backdrop of overall economic conditions.

We are following guidelines set by the UK Statistics Authority, and statisticians within DWP and the Office for National Statistics are working closely to ensure that information on universal credit claimants can be included within the claimant count as soon as possible.
