To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the potential effect on the local economy of the proposed 15 per cent duty on bookmakers' online winnings in Gibraltar.
We are aware of the important role that remote gambling plays in Gibraltar's economy and we continue to engage with HM Government of Gibraltar and Gibraltar-based operators in order to ensure that the potential impact of the reforms to remote gambling on Gibraltar's economy are fully understood. In his new year message, Chief Minister Picardo noted the positive dialogue with HM Treasury and the Department of Culture Media and Sport on this issue.
