When stop and search powers are used effectively and fairly, they are a vital tool for the police in the fight against crime. The Government launched a public consultation in the summer of 2013 to seek the views of the public on various themes, including the fair use of the powers. The consultation closed in September and the Government are analysing the many responses to the consultation and will publish its conclusions in due course.
